President's Update

Georgina Balascas

Hello!

It has certainly been a very difficult and exhausting road that we have
travelled these past several weeks. However, there is a glimmer
of hope as restrictions are being lifted slowly, but carefully. As you
know, certain shops and services have been allowed to open. As this
process continues, we have been asked to remain vigilant and to
maintain social/physical distancing so that the virus does not spread.
Recently we were told that we may be required to wear masks in
stores and other locations as a precaution to protect ourselves and
others. There are several businesses that already require that masks
be worn by their customers.

Because of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic we are making The Marklander May 2020 issue available in PDF format. If you would like to download a copy of The Marklander, follow this link: http://www.marklandwood.org/images/Marklander/PDF/May_2020.pdf)

Hello!

Happy Spring...at least I think it is spring! Last thing I remember was March Break. This morning I saw a neighbour talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I came into my house, told my dog, and we laughed a lot.

I hope you are all managing during this unusual time. Social distancing is not what Markland is all about; it’s not what humanity is all about but it seems to be the only way to fight this global pandemic. We are all in this together as we live the same day, over and over again. The most mundane tasks have taken on a new meaning. Excitement doesn’t cost a mere fortune anymore! Netflix has become a necessity, not a luxury. Zoom used to be a teeth whitening system. The word hero has taken on a new meaning…and the list goes on.

Our 52nd Annual Christmas Caravan took place this Sunday December 15th at 9am and we thank you for your help with both, donations for those less fortunate than us, as well as collection assistance! The caravan started at 9am at the Markland Plaza with our full complement of parade regulars that included the Toronto Police Service (TPS) and Toronto Fire vehicles, The TPS Mounted Unit with their horses, our music truck playing Christmas carols, the Daily Bread Food Bank truck, the Salvation Army truck for gently used clothing, the TPS Toy Van and of course the Big Man in Red... Santa who gave candies to and took photos with all the young Marklanders.

Every home in Markland Wood was visited during our Caravan. Those not home please left their donation on their porch and one of our many elves picked them up.
